Out snowshoeing in the woods this afternoon. Sunny and "warm" in the 20f range. We still have about 3' of snow most places. Tripod here is fully extended and still not touching the ground.

My friend Kaleb pulling the DS and getting ready to expose a plate of me. I quickly shot this while sitting waiting with a neck brace on me. We had a casual wet plate workshop yesterday here at the university. We used my cameras - that's my Wista 8x10 and Gundlach Radar 12" f/4.5.

Nice gear for a student (or anyone really) good times, nice also to have others locally to share the experience with, it's lonely here in CT.

    Also hope you heal quickly.

LOL no I mean a neck brace as in something to keep my head in place for a 2-second exposure!!
By the way just an FYI I'm not a student, I teach at the university........
Kaleb graduated from here and is now getting an MFA in Florida, so it worked out for him to come back when some of the students in the program were interested in alternative processes. We also had a large contingent of art faculty and students from the region come down for the workshop. Good times were had by all. The students shot a bunch of tintypes (either 4x5 or mini ones that went in a Holga) while Kaleb and I shot some large 8x10 (wet) plates.

    So cold!!!!

Also totally screwed this up, after opening the dark tent and not putting the daylight tank lid on... 1/3 the film was fogged, thankfully I could at least crop a bit.

    Original straight scan...

Crop and some post LR4 editing to reduce the fog a bit more with a graduated digital tool.

Least favorite shot happened to be where the camera was pointing when I was "showing it off" so thought I would share the results too, however the other two shots were better, but recovery was of course worse on the images... Man, when I screw up I really screw up! Lol.

Unless he suffered chafing from the brace, Bryan's not in need of healing. Neck braces are used to prevent a sitter from moving during long exposures!

Oh that! I just use an arm and grip, not sure where to get those old neck/head prong braces, cool, I wasn't thinking of that.

He built his own (it's basically some large metal tongs with a screw to tighten them to the proper width, and then attached to a light stand).

Keep it pointed downrange. Magazine out, slide back. Clear the chamber, holster.
