I should probably re-phrase that statement above.
No the Toyo is much heavier than a KMV, weighs in at around 7kg or 15lbs.
I meant that I always knew it (the KMV) was among the lighter 8x10s, so when I got the Toyo, I appreciated the lightness of the KMV even more.
Though I appreciate the Toyo's stability, rigidity and precision much more than a few pounds of weight saved.
I just got the 12.5 WA Wollensak in the Alphax shutter back from S.K. Grimes so this was the first time I've used it. I think it is single coated but I'll have to double check. Grimes made a filter adapter for it so I can put a lens shade on so I should be o.k. as far as flare, etc. Processed the negs last night and WOW! it's got a lot of coverage. I was about 15 - 20 ft. from the back of my house and I had everything from the back steps almost up to the peak of the 2nd floor roof. Looking forward to shooting some industrial stuff with this lens as well as interiors.
Thanks, Thom. I try to keep a look out for the 12.5 every now and again; great to hear confirmation that it's a good performer. Also, I have nothing but good words about dealing with Adam at S.K. Grimes.
4x5" reflex revolving back hyper fast combo,
This project took lot of time but is ready now.
Hand held pics, portraits or other with a really fast lens,
The original camera format is 10x15 cm with plates/film holders, with the adapted camera back it is now converted on 4x5".
Lenses, Ross XPRESS 250 mm f:2,7 and Dallmeyer Pentac 250 mm f:2,9
I would keep just one of two combos and will post one of them on the FS section.
Contact me via PM if any question.
Pics included.

Well.... I'm back!
It's been almost 2000 posts and three quarter of a million views in the roughly 6 years since I started this thread. I couldn't shake large format, even though I I've tried for the past few years. I got sucked back in with a local Craiglist posting... picked myself up a Kodak 2D 8x10 and lens with a few holders. Just exposed my first sheet of film tonight.
It feels good.
