I can't help with hot lights and others have sent you great info sites, but if you go with strobe, the main thing is to keep your body or furniture or columns blocking the actual strobe.

Do everything in the dimmest light while the shutter is left open. Move around the room flashing the strobe as you go and blocking as described. I've made it happen with something as small and simple as either a Vivitar 283 or 285 set on automatic at the f11 or higher setting. Simple, no calculating for exposure and beautiful light. Works for small rooms all the way to big churches.

This guy used a flashlight to "paint" his images. Pretty cool. Th first example I seen of this technique was done on an entire railroad train back in the '50s.

Matthew, thank you but the video has been deleted for some reason.
Greg, thank you but I agree with Kirk.
There are some hot spots way too hot and in the wrong places.
I have been reading in the negative of AA about light painting which is pretty explanatory, the only thing is that he talks about rotating the light continiously and I am not sure what he means.
The technique really seems simple.
I am just going to do some trials tonight and have some fun.
I would have had to do some trials anyway.
