print on 5x7 paper from 4x5 negative

My longest lens for my Omega D2 is 161mm. The smallest size I can print is roughly 6 1/4 x 8 1/4. Would a longer focal length allow me to print smaller (5x7). I don't want to contact print if I don't have to.

    Can anyone recommend a solution?

    Thanks!

    Dorothy

Hi, what size cone are you using? Maybe a longer cone, or bellows attachment would work for you.

    Hi Jon,
The cone is around 2 1/2" top to bottom. I've never heard of a bellows attachment.

Hi, I recommend a 4.5 inch cone. The bellows thing is for reductions, I think, rather than enlargements.

Call Harry Taylor. He'll make one for you if he doesn't have one in stock.

I have a 135mm lens on the lens cone recommende for that focal lengh by Omega and am able to make 5x7 prints from 4x5 negs with easy...you have to crop alot though!. Sorry, I can't remember now exactly how long the cone is, maybe...2-1/2 inches? I could measure it when I get home tonight if it is of interest.

Try elevating your easel - I usually use paper boxes to lift the easel when the minimum focusing distance doesn't allow me to make a print as small as I want.

Yes, if you are "minimum column height" limited.
No, if you are "maximum bellows extension" limited.

So, it depends on exactly why you can't print any smaller than 5x7.
