Mac and os x version 10.5
I get that, when I have tried to specify a custom paper size. Have you done that ?

I only use A4 paper, the A4 box is ticked all the time.
I never got the problem before I upgraded to OS X 10.5, and got the new Epson drivers.
Firewire or USB? I've experience communication error if connection not chosen correctly.

Terry, were you able to resolve the problem.? I have a 2400 under WinXP and have never received an error such as this.
If the problem hasn't been resolved and it's not the drivers, you might try using a different USB cable that you know works perfectly. I've had brand new cables that were bad.

I still have problem, I tried changing usb cable worked once then problem started again.
Any suggestions.
