    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

Well we got it home and it actually works after an 1800 Km road trip.
A driver / error message i think it was - bulb brightness not optimal, and yes it did warm up for over 30 minutes, maybe an issue there.
Manufactured in 2002 so reasonably new and it needs a good clean, i better go through this thread again for more tips.
    Thanks to all the contributors.

According to the Screen manual, it will take 30 minutes to warm up, and so that's not unusual. You can scan before that, but the scans won't be quite as consistent.

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

I have a question here, maybe someone can help me.

I'm planning on cutting some pieces of acrylic with laser to make some film holders.

I visited another Cezanne owner here in Brazil and he tried cutting an improvised holder out of gatorfoam to check this possibility.

All he got were out-of-focus scans.

Is there a window or a target on the clamshell holders some of you have that we should simulate on these DIY holders we are trying? Can someone post an underside pic of these holders?

    Thanks!

An update to this laser cutting idea for masks: I ran into focus problem, couldn't hold the film flat enough, so some parts of it showed an amazing focus and some a not so good one.
Went back to wet mounting on the original sheet of acrylic, but that shows marks even with wet mounting.
I tried to place the ANR glass from a Scitex scanner on top of scanner moving bed, the driver said it couldn't reach focus point. My next move will be to try a thinner piece of glass I found tonight.

I have been using a plastics store to cut replacement beds made of 3mm P99 Acrylite (to eliminate newton rings). My scans seem sharp, but Peter has tried this method and noticed some loss of sharpness in his scans. I have not gotten around to running my own comparison yet. Perhaps clear acrylic and wet mouting would solve the issues Peter noticed. I have never had problems with the Cezanne being able to focus on a replacement bed.

The dimensions of the replacement platen are:
    22.75" x 14.75"
make cuts at 0.25" from the corner

Try wet-mounting to a sheet of optical glass. That's what I've been doing.

Is there a way to know when does the scanner reads the white calibration strip? Too many streaks in my images. I changed the calibration strip to see if those would change place and I see little difference. Mirror seems clean.

Edit: Please disregard. Problem solved. Bottoms lamps reversed after cleaning. Ooops

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

    Hi guys!

I'm happily sitting here with my new Cezanne - care of Bob McCarthy, who got it from Scott I believe it is.

I will probably have to ask many questions...especially related to the Mac G4 that came with it. I'm a PC guy and can't stand Macs, so issues therein are totally foreign to me. For example!

I hooked everything up here and I get an error trying to do anything:

TWAIN Acquire: "Sorry, the Acquisition Source Manager is not installed in the System Folder."
TWAIN Select Source: "Requested read/write permission doesn't match driver's open permission, or Attempt to open RAM serial Driver failed."
When opening ColorGeniousServer (huh? what's the difference here between that and just ColorGenius?): "The initialization of Server appplication failed. Server can't start. <Scanner initialization error: Could not reset CCD, Lens motor.>"

Yeah so any help would be good...this is all Greek to me. I can build and maintain Windows boxes but all this gobbledygook is new. I reset the left guard a couple of times now per Bob's warning to me when he was telling me about the scanner to no avail.

    Thanks.

Heh, well ignore my stupid post. I reset the guard once more and that seems to have fixed something, though I'm still getting the errors related to TWAIN.

You first start CG Server. After that's up, then you start CG proper. These machines were often used with a server by the scanner and multiple instances of CG on other machines.
Bob M. will be your best resource. I've never had a TWAIN issue.

Remember that with SCSI, you always power on the scanner first, and then the computer; and you turn off the computer before turning off the scanner. Bad things happen if you don't do this.
