    Storing Your Negs ... 5x7, 8x10, whole-plate ??

I store my 4x5 negs in PrintFile sleeves or the individual sleeves from Clearfile.

Is this a common method or do you guys have different storage methods.

Having recently enetered the world of 5x7 I'm wondering how I should store these negs ?

    What do you do ?

If I had my act together I'd do what you're doing.

My negatives are in glassines and stored in old film boxes.

I store my negs (4x5, 5x7 and 8x10) in these envelopes

    In these boxes...

I was storing one neg per envelope. But now I often keep 2 to 3 duplicate or very similar negs in the same envelope, with a piece of thin, acid-free paper in between the negs. I like how one can open the envelope and remove the neg without sliding the neg across any surface.

PS...I write all the film data on the flap of the envelope...date/camera/lens/film/metered light values/exposure/developing info and when printed (and printing process).

I use the printfile type sleeves for my 5x7 and 8x10 negatives also. I file them in 3" 3 ring binders together with the contact sheets.

    For 4x5, 5x7, 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 and 8x10 I use polyester interleaving folders

    http://www.lightimpressionsdirect.co...:134000:134200

    in envelopes

    http://www.lightimpressionsdirect.co...:135000:135100

then keep the combination in boxes

    http://www.lightimpressionsdirect.co...:191200:191210

Those are all Light Impressions links. Light Impressions no longer sells 5x7 polyester folders, so I've begun using Archival Methods instead

    http://www.archivalmethods.com/Produ...5&Productid=75

Archival Methods offers analogous products to all the Light Impressions links above.

    For 6 1/2 x 8 1/2, I initially purchased some of these polyester sleeves

    http://www.secol.co.uk/SLEEVES.SHTML

but don't like sliding the negatives in and out. I contacted Archival Methods to ask about custom sized versions of folders/sleeves/boxes and was taken aback by the cost. After trying out my existing 8x10 storage system with the slightly smaller negatives, it became clear that no custom order was necessary. The 8x10 folders have their fold on a long side; the box stores 8x10 envelopes horizontally. Therefore, no movement of the 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 negatives occurs when they're in these 8x10 storage products.

use 5x7 neg or print preservers - I stack 4x10's 2 to an 8x10 preserver though I am seriously contemplating a tool for generating plastic seams to keep the two pieces or film apart
