I've been spending a lot of time in and around these stands in the past months, as it is close to my house and I am fascinated by the trees. I'm going to buy some waders; there are lots of places I can't get to with knee-high muck boots and stay dry.
Very nice picture and composition. It looks however too post-processed to me. Almost HDR or maybe it was like that originally...

Thank you. I agree the tonal scale isn't "right". The main problem is that I overdeveloped the negative. I then tried stretching it out in scanning and post-processing. But it still looks too compressed on the high end and I agree that makes it resemble bad tonemapping/HDR, which is certainly not the effect I want. I'll be re-shooting this one.

Maybe "sun forest" would be better.

Our Governor recently declared a drought emergency for the Olympic Peninsula. The Olympic mountains, just like the Cascades and Sierra Nevadas, are very thirsty. Please send us a drink of water! Snow cones also welcome.

One more. This one I'm going to try making a Van Dyke Brown with. I think it's got a decent density range but I haven't put it on a densitometer yet.
Same gear. Definitely a bit of inspiration from Jim!
