I found this section of tree wandering along the Merced river in the Yosemite valley. To give a sense of scale, the part of the tree in the image is about 5 or 6 inches across.

This is another one from Yosemite valley a couple of weeks ago. The park service does controlled burns throughout the park and this was one of those areas.

Can't remember what lens this was, but I think it will have been the 150mm Sinaron SE. HP5+ in DDX. Shot during late spring of this year but only just developed.
