Nice shot – expressionistic, almost haunting. To me Cottonwoods when naked are scary, even if very shapely, but when full of summer foliage, there’s no more beautiful sound when the breeze is up, and no more delightful shade when the sun is out.

Trying out a no-name 8" f16 wide angle in roller-blind shutter. Prone to flare, but very sharp.

I'd find it sadder if those were "wild" trees, but by the uniformity of size, they look farmed to me.

That said, I find the image interesting and well executed. Killed and uniform trees piled neatly on the sides, very uniform live trees in the distance. And then the one little "Christmas tree" lying on the ground. Well seen and done.

Your dramatic shot makes me feel your pain. In this image from a few years ago, you can see where the doomed trees once stood. These remaining trees, lucky indeed, were spared for the birds, especially raptors. The NF officials instructed the lumberjacks to leave them there, and plant new trees to replace the ones taken. Balancing global industry & forest ecology – with industry enjoying the better end of the deal, of course.

Powerful image. I was going to say something about trees and forests and human consumption, but then I realized I am writing this from inside a house framed in wood, my chair sits on hardwood floors, and the desk I am writing from is made of mahogany. Not to mention all the wooden cameras I own and the firewood I burn each winter.

    Re: post your trees!

    Oh, and Heroique, as well!

Our trees around here are generally much more crowded together, as in your neck of the woods. (The pun wasn't intended, but came out OK!) I spotted this loner from the highway when travelling east, and made a point of stopping there a week later on the way back.
