Thad, thanks for your kind words.

When I went to the Cazneaux Tree I carried a photocopy of Cazneaux's image folded in my pocket. I was going to find his tripod holes and use an uncoated lens from that era to, in effect, stand where he stood and see what he saw. Things didn't quite work out. Cazneaux had a sunny day, mine was cloudy. My lens should have been a 150mm instead of the 135mm. You would think that ground level itself would be geologically stable but it had changed. The tree must see hundreds of cameras and camera-telephones over the years and if it had a hand it would surely be laughing gently behind it.

The lens has limited coverage and the image detail at maximum rise is fading rapidly at the top.

This tree was originally photographed by Harold Cazneaux in May 1937 as the subject for his famous picture "Spirit of Endurance" which received international acclaim. My Voigtlander lens dates from 1928 but it is not nearly as old as the tree which still prospers today at Wilpena Pound, South Australia.
That is a great picture Maris, and interesting also to read about the earlier photograph by Cazneaux. Curious, I searched for it, and while it is also very nice, to tell you the truth, I like yours better! Anyway, Here is the original for those interested:

A very interesting tree, Maris. Apparently Cazneaux printed several versions of the negative(s):

The choice of using a brown toner (Kodak Brown Toner??) is outstanding to my eye and having the mountain range trail off to the right with the dark part of the tree on its left is the better composition to my eye. Thanks for posting this.

Misjudged the focus on this a bit. The GG was pretty dim in the low light.
