woods and branches composition on Ash Island, off Owls Head. The photograph is largely possible because I have used this lens a great deal and know how the background is going to work. Ground glass tells some, experience tells some. I have some of my characteristic layering of woods scenes with foreground, mid-range, and background all visible to some extent and having their place in the design of the photo. Silhouttes, downed trees and branches supply tone differences and composition. Sun was behind a cloud, so it's subdued and buttery soft, rather than radiant glowing.

There's a lot going on in that photo, Jason. I like.

I like the (cedar?) trees on that one jp. The juxtaposition of the detail and softness/glow is what attracts me to soft focus work.

The tree in the foreground is likely spruce. We have a mix of spruce, white pine, and fir trees. Cedar are very rare. But those exact details aren't important with SF. Some places along the coast like this, the canopy is thick and at normal height, the branches are not useful and get weather worn from wind as if on a mountain. I've got another shot with the aero ektar which is nice but I didn't perfectly nail the focus, which is an easy error with that lens.
