That was Darkroom 2 seven years ago when I joined here. Darkroom 1 was a basement closet without water in 1958. It lost its charm quickly. I quit processing my own film until 1997.

Darkroom 3 was overkill and shutdown 18 months ago when I sold my art loft.

Now building Darkroom 4 in a bedroom. I have no plans to sell this very worn home. It will not appreciate in value unless cities become unlivable. Which I believe, they already are.

I also have an escape capsule on wheels. It is Darkroom 4.5...

And the thing that pulls 4.5 is 5.0?

Don't forget that acrylic or latex paint not only washes poorly but is electrostatic, attracting dust. But I guess that is a relative non-issue for some, who have chosen even worse alternatives.

I have gone back and forth on the question of black walls vs. white walls and was about to compromise on painting the dry side and short walls black, and the wet side white. Then it occurred to me that I could have the best of both if I made all of the walls a safe orange. I figure that white light spilling out of the enlarger will be substantially filtered to only orange by the orange walls. I cannot find anything on this idea and so I am looking for the collective wisdom of the group.

Sure, go for it! It's no worse that some of the things that have been suggested in this forum, and you can always repaint them!

I have the luxury of more than one darkroom, so in the critical film everything is black, but the big 8x10 enlargers are in a room where everything immediately around or behind the enlargers is black, but everything else white to keep other tasks reasonably well lit when room lights are turned back on. I do color as well as black and white printing, so colored walls are a no-no. Besides, orange reminds me of DUI offenders picking up highway trash in orange suits, or Cheapo Depot orange vests.
