SilverFast AI/ Epson V750 height adjustment

    Dear large format scanning mavens,

After playing with the Epson scanning software, I've tried using the Silverfast AI software that came bundled with the V750. The Epson has an option for setting the scan height via a software switch to scan either on the glass or using film holders. This function appears to be missing on the Silverfast software. Tests with Silverfast show that the focus defaults to the glass, leaving the scan vulnerable to Newton's rings. Am I missing something or is there a way to use Silverfast with the film holders? I'd prefer to use Silverfast due to it's greater flexibility. Thanks for any advice.

    John -

In Silverfast you have the choices of reflective (focuses at the glass), transparency (for use with film holders and uses the lens that focuses at 3 mm) and transparency "full area" which again focuses at the glass. In short, with the film holders you want to use plain transparency.

Thanks Doug. Still looking forward to the V750 adjustable holder. Any updates?

    Hi Doug,

I found this old topic because I have a problem exactly with this. I scan my 8x10 bw-negatives with the V750 and the silverfast software (6.6.1r2b). But if I choose "full area" the focus stays 3 mm above the glass plate. At the moment I use an additional 3 mm glass plate to be in focus. But that is cumbersome.

So I'm not sure whether the software has a bug or the scanner is faulty and doesn't change the focus if I go to "full area".

Any similar experience out there in the web?

    Thank you,
    Johannes
