Re: Nikkor 120 SW on 8x10 examples

I just acquired the 120mm SW from a forum member here and did an illumination test this morning on a evenly lit wall using my 4x10. Using a Soligar spot meter the reading through the ground glass at center the reading was 11 and at the corners the reading was 7.7 or so, a little more then 3 stops of falloff.

B&H shows a Heliopan 77mm 3X center filter as an accessory and the cost is something like $473. I like the angle of view and I most likely will have to break down and get a center filter.

One thing for sure, it's easy to spend a ridiculous amount of money on photography.

I can't believe my luck. I checked out a center filter at BH for the 120mm earlier today and the 77mm 3x was $475 special order. I went on Ebay about an hour ago and did a search on Heliopan and guess what shows up; a 77mm .45ND center filter and 105mm matching polarizer. I won the bid and with shipping the total was $174.

Joe, That is disapointing. I thought all the good deals on the auction site was posted here before the auction came to an end.
Congrats on the good deal though

Any pics with your "new" 120 SW's on 8x10? Here's one from me... It's a gold toned POP print. Sorry about the underexposed print bottom left. Not sure I lined up my UV sun lamp properly

FWIW, I took this a few years ago with the 120 SW Nikkor on an 8x10 Hobo.

Just curious why you would want a center filter on a lens that is at 0 movements for 8X10?

Great deal on the auction. Sorry it came down to two LF members.

This is awesome. It is butter smooth and extremely sharp. I love the "effect" from this wide lens on the 8X10 sheet.

Out of curiousity, what is this "effect" like when you are viewing the contact print vs. say, a 16X20 or 24X30 enlargement of the shot? Some can argue that having too wide a shot as a contact "retracts" the viewer which is the whole point of having a contact print made (draw the viewer in).

    Cheers!
