New Inkjet Printing Book

I am proud to be a contributer (along with Joel Meyerowitz, Mac Holbert, Karen Schminke, Richard Erhrlich, David Emerick et al) to Andrew Darlow's new book "301 Inkjet Tips and Techniques: An Essential Printing Resource for Photographers". Andrew is the former editorial director of Digital Imaging Techniques. This has been a difficult book for him to push out the door as the technology has been changing so fast, but Andrew has produced a work that for the foreseeable future, I think, will be seen as the bible of inkjet printing (if that is even possible with such rapidly changing technology?).

Outside of forums this is the best resource, that I have seen, on inkjet printing, comprehensive, coherent and with superb reproductions.

My contribution relates to tips using the ImagePrint RIP and amounts to 7 pages, 3 images and two illustrations.

This book (I receive no royalties) will be indispensable to entry level printers and useful to old hands. It is available through Amazon listed price is $32.99:

Kirk, I'm always looking for tips to improve my printing. In particular, do you and some of the other authors talk about the need for and benefits of a RIP? The investment in a RIP seems so steep.

I've looked at the Amazon site but it doesn't give much more information about the book's contents.

There is an entire chapter, 30 pages, on RIPS including QImage, ColorBurst, ImagePrint (me), StudioPrint and CMYK proofers.

Of course that is allot of territory to cover and what it primarily covers is essential tips and strengths of the various RIPS.

Good question. I have no idea how they arrived at that number. But hey, at $32 with todays cost of inks and fine art papers, how long would it take a couple of good tips to save you that much money? Not long.

Tell me, Kirk, why aren't you receiving compensation? I would think if you contribute to a work and it's sold, you might get royalties. I mean, reputation and merit are great, but this isn't exactly a scholarly essay. (or I don't think)

I of course have no idea how the publishing industry works.
