If you plan and backup properly, the only tragedy would be having to reinstall the old version and restore everything. With OS X figure one afternoon for both applications and data.

The trick for me is not to do the upgrade but clean install. I backup my data and all my program preferences into two identical, physically separate sets. Then wipe everything out, install the new OS, then reinstall the applications and finally restore the preferences and data.

It's more involved but I end up with a clean, fast system. I usually do this once a year, new OS or not, just for the sake of tuning up. It is also a good opportunity to create a complete backup.

The trick, Marko, is to also make sure you have at hand all the serial numbers of your software installed over the years!

Of course. Mine all fit in a bookshelf behind my back. I also maintain a small database with licences and serial numbers. I consider it an essential part of my business.

Being of a trusting nature, I just upgraded it, right over my existing OS.

    Not a single problem.

According to Macworld, no problems with Photoshop CS3 etc:

Personally 10.5 isn't something I'd pay money for. I'll just wait for the next hardware upgrade.

On Luminuous Landscape one person is reporting issues with ImagePrint.
    Thanks,
    Kirk

What about 64 bit support? If the OSes don't have it, Photoshop won't have it either. I'd love for Photoshop to support at least 8GB. Make it much easier to work with these 1.5GB drum scans.

What I remember about OS X.4 was that it had partial 64 bit support, but I don't remember if the entire VM system was 64 bit or not.

    Anyone?

on X.4 the VM was 64 bit but writing 64 bit pps was a pain as none of the libraries was 64 bit (ecept libc) so you had to use a pair of applications. Not many people bothered... now they can just recmpile apps as 32+64 bit easily (well, if their compilers support this).
