I have not only info but also personal experience with it

I have the DaYi 6×12cm holder for almost a year, have run some 15-20 rolls through it. No problems, no light leaks detected so far, reasonably flat, not that hard to load when you learn that the tension is really strong... On the whole I'm happy with it. I'd recommend it.

    Do you need anything specific?

I have the 6x17cm version, and it's worked fine for me.

Hi Jiri, I've seen one for sale on ebay its the 6x12. It aroused my curiosity, the multiformat at that price given is tempting. I will have to put it on my wish list though. I'll probably buy one before christmas!

How far back is the film plane of the Da-Yi back compared to the normal film plane? Just wanted assurances that I can focus at infinity.

    Thanks,

    Bob

I never actualy measured it but to guess it at about 15-20mm. I bought a 11mm recessed board for my SV45TE and I am still able to focus with my 90mm at infinity without doing extraordinary adjustments which you can with the Ebony. I was just short of infinity when using the 90mm on my Speed Graphic but I could focus on objects at 100ft or so. No problem with the 150mm. No problem either with my Sinar with the 90mm.

I have also thought of the 6×17cm version, but decided against it in the end. Consider also the added weight and bulk, problems with focusing shorter focal lengths. If I need the aspect ratio of a long panorama like 6×17cm, I'll just compose my frame for later cropping (from the 6×12cm capture) - and that is only around 1cm crop. Yes, I can not get that wide (I'd need wider lens), but my Angulon 90mm f:6.8 would not cover 6×17cm anyway.

So to me, the 6×12cm is the perfect compromise. And for the price of it, you could also consider having both the DaYi 6×12cm and 6×17cm versions and still be cheaper than variants from other sources... (and take the one you prefer for the trip/shooting opportunity)

The 6x17 does come with inserts if you want to make 6x9, 6x12, etc. My 90mm SA f/8 has plenty of coverage.
