Ok, the above suggestions worked wonderfully. Now it's on me...
I haven't used the CS3 stitching (I'm still a few versions behind...) however I can whole heartedly recommend AutoPano www.autopano.net I use that for most of my stitching. I don't stitch much film, but it stitches just about anything. I use it at work, and at home for various types of stitching, from 360x360 HDR reflection maps, to simple hand held panoramas and grid stitches simply to get more resolution out of my digital camera.
