Congratulations! Nice color and composition. The subject pops off the background.

Thanks, Chassis. High praise, indeed, coming from you. You've got great stuff on here (and elsewhere). This was an early attempt at using a larger aperture to push the subject away from the background, and I'm glad it works.

Nice stuff Brandon - I've been busy lately and forgot to keep up with the group, I would've loved to go! Need to get back into things and "join" officially. Was this the Atlanta club or SE?

    Brandon,

Sorry. Negative reviews often are not appreciated. But . . .

The lighting is flat, there is just very little compositionally that is interesting and the image is either overexposed in the camera or in the processing. The red channel is clipped quite a bit leaving no detail at all in the yellow petals. Bright yellow is difficult enough to capture well, and this exposure gives it no chance. Much the same everywhere else.

It's often said that it's almost impossible to overexpose color negative film. Not so.

Thanks, Rich. Yep, yellows can block and this one did. It wouldn't have been in post and shouldn't have been in camera. Could be in the home processing, emulsion, who knows. Still looks better to me than many digital palettes, and I'll take that yellow over a blocked digital red any day, personal preference.

As for the composition, to each their own. I have been doing more with straight on comps recently and this is one of those.

Certainly, there are better images of flowers out there, but this was just one I wanted to share in this particular thread. Personally, I usually stay away from flowers-have done enough of those years ago, lol.

. Hey Bryan, the field trip was via Atlanta Photographic society. I find the crowd at APS to be pretty approachable and like to make the field trips I can. I also learned that carrying a 4x5 rig in a hot humid environment = tons of sweat.
