Schneider 150mm Symmar-S compared to old Symmar

Concerning 150mm lenses. I have an older Symmar 5.6 150mm/265mm convertible. I have a chance to pick up a excellent 150mm/5.6 multicoated for around $325. Worth considering? The old guy is in really good shape but I do not know how much longer. I use the 150 a lot and it is my main lens so I want a good amount of reliability. I would appreciate the usual insight that is only obtainable on this site.

    Thanks,
    Richard

    Hello Richard,

I have some Symmar lenses, 135mm, 150mm, 180mm and a 240mm and when I compare the result of these to my MC Symmar-S 180mm there is a clear difference in sharpness...the Symmar-S is to me a 'better' lens.

The Symmar-S is ofcourse larger, with a lot more glass to protect and needs more delicate handling.

However, talking about reliability I think it all depends on the shutter, doesn't it?

Sounds fairly expensive to me. How old is the S?
