Weather in the mountains is as unpredictable as a baby's bottom, I've been told
"I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority"---EB White

Yup, it can snow any day of the year in the Sierra Nevada. They said 6500 feet would be the snow level on Saturday at Donner Pass.

Impressive isn't it? Nice to have reminders of the unpredictability of the weather.

Had a bit of snow here at the house today, it may be summer, but it is normal in the Mountain Country.

The photos looked nice this morning when I checked them. I'm supposed to be flying out there on Saturday morning from Mobile. The key word is "supposed", there is a tropical storm forming in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to move inland over Mobile, Saturday. I'm hoping my flight gets out before any cancellations. Bummer.

Snow in the high country in the summer is not that unusual...associated with thunder storms.

I had a string of mules in the coastal mountains of Northern California (the Yolla Bolly Mountains) maintaining some trails many years back. We were at 6300'. A thunderstorm developed right above us and soon it was a near white-out situation with lightning hitting around us -- no time difference between flash of brightness and the thunder. When the storm finally was over and the clouds lifted, there was a couple inches of snow down to 6000'. The line between snow/no snow was pretty amazing.

This was on a July 17th.

It was quite an experience..I loved it...the mules did not.

Hi Dave it looks beautiful there, how are things going for you? I had a similar event with my 29 year old nephew four weeks ago. We are still recovering, he was a decent young man who worked his way though college and got a degree and appeared very happy to the family. He took his life one evening with a gun we didn't now he had purchased. I give you my empathy now instead of mere sympathy.

Snow in Yosemite muct be really something to see. I was thinking of taking the train there just for the new adventure of it. It's only $159.00 including the bus over from the train depot. Anyone take the train there, not including Ansel Adams?

I always thought it would be fun for a bunch of photographers to get on the train at different stations from BC to LA and go to a park as a group and photograph. I went to Santa Barbara a few years ago on the Coast Light Express and it was fun. The station there is fairly new and is in downtown and close to the beach and lot of motels.
