    Loading Jobo 3010/3006 Drums

    Hi,

I am considering getting one of the above expert drums and I am trying to work out which one. On the face of it, the 3010 would be the best bet, as I only use 5x4, and it can develop 10 sheets instead of 6.

The problem is in the loading. As I understand it, the 3010 has 5 tubes, that can take upto 2 sheets each. I have searched here, and it appears that they are easy to load, but I have a specific problem. I have a lack of control/feeling in the thumb and first finger of my left hand - I am right handed. Would this make the 3006 easier to load than the 3010 considering the 3006 only has 1 sheet per tube, or is there little difference?

I am able to load the 2500 tanks using the film loader with a bit of difficulty, and can load roll films into appropriate tanks, again with a bit of difficulty. I am also able to load/unload my film holders, again with a bit of dificulty.

    TIA
    Steve

Steve I have owned both. I always loaded the 3010 one handed, so since you are right handed it should not be a problem for you. It is fairly easy to slide the sheets into the ridges inside the cylinders of the 3010; practise with junk film in the light a few times.

    They are great tanks.

I've got a 3010. The trick to loading for me is to curve the film to a radius smaller then the radius for the tube, insert the film, let it go, then rotate it until the film comes up against one of the internal rails. Popping the other edge under its rail is easy. If you leave this film sticking up out of it's tube a couple of centimeters it's like a marker that shows you where the rails are for the next film.

I would think with just a little practice it should be fairly easy to load with one hand. And 10 sheets at a time is really nice.

Steve, soounds like a C5-C6 problem. I ahve the same thing with a partial lack of feeling in my left thumb and forefinger (leads to some of my typos ... I do the rest without help). Anyway, I use both tanks and have had no probme with either. I do use the 3006 more than the 3010 though.

    All,

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it should not be a problem.

    Ted,

Yep, C5-C6 it is. Same with the typos.

Why do you use the 3006 more than the 3010? They use the same amount of chemistry for the same number of films don't they?

Steve, I use the 3006 more because it is made primarily for 6x7 film and I shoot a lot of 5x7.

You use the amount of chemicals needed for the sheets you are processing. For Xtol 1:3, I use 100ml per sheet, but not less than 300ml. So a loaded 1006 gets 600ml and a loaded 3010 gets 1000ml. Either tank would 1 sheet gets 300ml.
