ONWARD '08: Juried Photography Exhibition - CALL FOR ENTRIES

Project Basho is excited to announce the open call for ONWARD, an annual juried photography exhibition. With this juried exhibition Project Basho attempts to shed light on new and emerging photographers with unique vision and talent.

Every year Project Basho will invite notable a photographer or another professional in the field to select the work for the exhibition. For the inaugural show, we are inviting Andrea Modica to be the juror. Andrea Modica has been consistently creating strong bodies of work with her platinum/palladium prints on vellum paper from 8x10 & 11x14 cameras. She has also been actively engaged in educating a new generation of photographers through workshops.

The exhibition will take place at the Project Basho Gallery in January 2008. The construction is in the final stage, and this unique and intimate space is awaiting for visually arresting images to be displayed on the walls. Project Basho Gallery will be one of the few in Philadelphia which is dedicated to the medium of photography. This annual event will be one of many ambitious photography exhibits which will take place in our space.

A more detailed description and the entry form are posted on our website. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us.

    Warmly,

This looks like a good project and I would like to participate with a submission.
    Good luck with this.

This is an interesting call for entries...but a question: given that it's not limited to US residents, and the entry form specifies a cheque for entry fees, is there an alternative means of payment for those outside the US? Paypal, or perhaps an international money order?

Do you have any idea what it takes to ship a framed print? Seems like a good exhibition and for a change for a reasonable price, but the shipping of a framed prints puts it out my league.

Isn't $70 a bit much to ask from artists?

Looks like a good program. From the entry form it looks like anyone who has shown work in a gallery (and signed a gallery agreement) is not eligible? So, probably this is for beginners?

    Good luck,

    Katie,

Thank you for your interest in ONWARD, our annual juried exhibition.

Yes, the open call is not limited to photographers in US. And we can take international money orders as well as paypal for the entry fee payment.

We are just about to make another announcement regarding the procedure for submitting work from outside of US. Please keep an eye on update on ONWARD page.

    Warmly,
    Tsuyoshi

    Jorge,

We can certainly understand your concern about the shipment of framed prints.

We will ask not to use a sheet of glass but acrylic as glazing. We can also pre-order glasses here at the studio and you will send the framed prints without glazing. We will definitely go over these details in an acceptance letter.

Thank you again for your interest though.

    Warmly,
    Project Basho

Where did you get $70, as I read it, it was $30 for the first 3 prints and $5 thereafter for the each additional print. As far as "contests" go this is very reasonable.

    Tsuyoshi,

Sorry, but even with acrylic (which btw is harder to find here in Mexico) the weight and charge for shipping both there and back would cost me more for one print that the price you charge for entering. I suppose this is really a contest for those living in the US. Good luck with the contest.

My bad, the entry fee is $30 not $70. Photo Eye is charging $70.
