    William Eggleston "In the Real World"

    I just finished watching the fascinating documentary "William Eggleston In the Real World"

    http://photo-muse.blogspot.com/2007/...eal-world.html

    Odd, slightly weird, inspiring, delightful...

    A little OT (though Eggleston has probably influenced a big section of LF photography as much as anyone + he did a whole section of work in 5x7...)

    That doc is so poorly done that it is hard to watch.

    The wind noise and constant jittery camera made me nuts.

    An artist of his stature certainly deserves better.

    Hopefully before he's dead.

    I liked it. Only complaint was some of the painfully awkward interviewing near the end. Eggleston was making it plain as day that there were certain things he didn't like talking about. The interviewer kept hammering away, with a series of increasingly dumb questions. I was afraid Eggleston was going to walk away! Other than that, a fascinating glimpse into the world of an ingenious oddball.

    yeah absolutely agree - I managed to put that aspect aside after a while, because there is some good stuff in there - that might well not come across in another production

    It's always great to see a master at work. However, I was hoping for a little more insight into his approach to photography. Still, maybe that's the point of it. We see his photography as more of a 'big deal' than he.

    i wouldn't mistake his unwillingness to talk about his work with a lack of self-importance.

    he approached MoMA with his work back in the day, not the other way around.

    here's a pretty interesting article on him, with some rare quotes about his work ...

    i thought it was very poor too i'm afraid, it almost put me off his work!

    those "genius extending his art to music" bits and eggleston, pished, playing the synth were painful.

    still, seeing the 5x7 exhibit in edinburgh recently got me back into the fanclub though...

    Anyone seen "By The Ways; A Journey With William Eggleston"?

    There is a website with a short trailer here;
