If you want something foldable with limited movements, you could look for a 18x24cm German "Reisekamera" - if you can live with adapted plate holders and 18x24cm format. Or your friends could make a 8x10" adapter back for one, although that might be a tight fit.

My 13x18 and 24x30 Reisekameras are small, light, ultra-stable and very usable. There's front shift and rise on the lens board, and a few degrees of swing and tilt on the back.

Even if they're around a century old they are still as good as the day they were made.

You might try Abro in Zaandam. They are not very cheap, but maybe the only shop, where you will have some choice. Allways have a copy of their website pricelist at you, sometimes they try to sell things for more.

I think the Shen Hao cameras they are selling are new. Maybe they import them.

Cambo was represented by Calumet (Amsterda m and Rotterdam) but all non-digital stuff has disappeared from their website and catalogue. Cambo itself is in Kampen. Maybe they have some stuff left.

How basic do you want it?

Cardboard box with a lens on the front.

Want focusing? Two boxes one inside the other so you can sliding them apart.

    That's a "complicated" one

That looks like a "fixer-upper" to me. There's damage to the lens board, I think one of the focusing rails may be loose, the bellows look a bit dudgy, and the back looks like it may need a little repair too. Worst of all is that there are no holders with it - these things don't take standard holders, and it's nearly impossible to find holders that match any given camera.

Last week-end we had our 3-rd French-speaking LF conference in Montreux, Switzerland.
A prototype of such a 8x10" wooden "box" camera was presented. It is designed & fabricated by a small team of Swiss enthusiasts. There are many accessories planned, viewfinders, helical focusing mounts, even a reflex mirror viewer for the 8x10" format !
The 8"x10" prototype is not yet listed on the web site but you can contact them by mail on my behalf.

I was in the LF shop in Paris on Beaumarchais last week (I was on vacation and ran out of film). I was shocked by the wide variety of view cameras that he had on display, including a Shen-Hao 8x10 in Oak which was very pretty. I don't think that I had ever seen so many NEW view cameras in one place before.

The shop is right at the exit of the Chemin Vert Metro Stop.
