    Manufactured Landscapes

Just saw the Edward Burtynsky film, Manufactured landscapes. Frankly I was impressed, not so much by the man (his dialog, strangely dispassionate), but by the images in the context of the landscapes he photographs. He sees the essence of those landscapes. I had been kind of indifferent to his work before the movie.
    Thanks,
    Kirk

Never saw the movie, but I've been on track with his work for a while. While some aren't technically perfect, they do get the message across. I find his work unprententious and evocative. It really evokes some feeling get's you thinking...somehow he's able to find/capture beauty in an otherwise ugly horrific truth.

Adonis, I have never seen the originals!

Paul it just came to the local art flick theater, which I realized last night that I first went to in the summer of 1968!
    Thanks,

By the way, I have never used a Linhof. In the film he oftentimes mounts it upside down. Is this to do falls with the lens and avoid the bed?
    Thanks,

Yes. I've done it, but of course all the controls are on the wrong side of the camera - the GG image is still upside down, thankfully.

I bought the DVD, Manufactured Landscapes a few months ago, I really liked the film, I also had a chance to see Edward's work at a gallery in Vernon, B.C. last year, I enjoyed seeing his work.

I've enjoyed Ed's work for a long time as well. We have a lot of similar locations near the Toledo area that I should go to if I would ever get the time (get off my ass) .
