Any idea how I can find out when a camera with this serial number was made?

The best source would be Bob Salomon at HP Marketing, the U.S. distributor for Linhof. He usually responds to these kinds of questions here but since he hasn't responded to this one you might contact him at HP Marketing.

Last couple of years. Our latest ones are C542xxx so yours is quite recent. This camera has been replaced with the Technika 3000. The 3000's that we have in stock are also C542xxx.
