    Cool Darkcloth for the tropics

I would be grateful for some suggestions about the best type of hood cloth t-shirt to use a in the tropics. I have a Blackjacket hybrid, but I wondered whether this is up to the heat and humidity. All suggestions will be appreaciated

    many thanks

I'm not quite in the tropics, but I am in Florida. I went to Kmart and bought two black, cotton T-shirts. I put one inside the other to make a double layer - I put my head through the neck hole and pull the tail of the shirt up over the camera. This allows easy venting to the air.

I am in Baton Rouge, which can get pretty tropical. I use one of the tube darkcloths with an elastic end to attach to the camera, which I have cut off to be just long enough to go over my head. I then use a magnifier with a broad base which excludes the rest of the light. I use my old, heavy Zone VI darkcloth, white side up, to cover my equipment in the car to keep it cooler.

There's a 'hybrid' version of the BlackJacket focusing cloth/tube that has a waterproof/breathable top panel designed for higher temp. environments.

When I'm shooting in places like Borneo etc. I use the T-shirt thing as well. The only thing is I put the neck hole over the camera back. Makes for a better seal IMHO and gives you more ventilation around your head.

I don't play the piano, I don't have a beard and I listen to AC/DC in the darkroom. I have no hope as a photographer.

Get a reflex viewer and a Maxwell screen....I hate darkcloths with a passion and never use one with my Arca Swiss Field.
