    Alec,

I had the same sort of situation with Igor's Cameras and, at the end of the day, I decided that the amount of effort in pursuing the purchase just wasn't worth it.

So, I simply purchased the item from another dealer.

Life is too short to worry about stuff like this!

    Cheers

Yeah, I think where this is going is that I either:
    • Buy the product and deal
    • Forget it.

I have to say, though, that these guys that sell LF equipment are nuts. Some are affable nuts, but for the most part they're nuts. Thus far, I've dealt with:

Bruce Cahn: The guy was selling a Wisner accessory I was interested in. When I asked to buy it, he gave me a lecture about how awful Wisner cameras are.

Glenn Evans: Sold me a Ries A100 tripod with the non-tilt head. "Excellent Plus" condition! Got the head and the hinge fins were as wavy as a souse. Have you seen his return policy? It's worse than filling out a tax return. (Kept the tripod, dumped the head)

Igor Reznik: Called about a camera today. Very nice, answered some questions. Told me that part of the camera package was on eBay. Asked what that meant for the package price (with a major component not included), and he said, "well, about the same". Asked for photos, got none. Hasn't answered an email yet. He's thinking of listing the camera on ebay in the meantime.

That's not to say I think poorly of any of these guys, but I do think that selling camera equipment has got to be a kind of a pastime for them....either that or their business savvy is really, really lacking. (That's "really"...comma..."really lacking") Anyway, none of this stuff is cheap and it makes purchasing LF gear pretty darn stressful.

Oh, you didn't have to do that, Cap...I thought that was funny.....particularly since I was just about to post a WTB!

Thanks, David, I'll probably give Jim a buzz on monday.

    Cheers!

    Hi Alec,

Have you considered a Dorff 5x7/4x5 Special? One just sold on the bay for a little under $700. :>0

Ok, well, got the photos from Igor and it looks good. So I snagged it. Yay!

I just meant in general, not to your case specifically.

I agree that it would be better if he posted more pics (ok, any pics) on his site.

Glad it worked out for you.

I purchased a Kodak Master 8x10 from him along with a suitable lens for the camera. Great transaction.

Later, I had wanted a Hassy lens he had. I didn't have the cash at the time, but he held it for a month and gave me a price break. Great lens; great transaction.

Well, after much hemming and hawing, pacing and thinking, I've decided to return the 5x7. Got it Tuesday and a few things just didn't sit well with me. The belows were kind of dry, and the front rise really needed some coaxing to move. And the base of the camera was refinished...and not terribly well.

So, I'll let you know how the return process goes. For someone doing research on Igor's Camera, this thread should prove useful. I'm dispatching an email tonight. Search is still on!

    Cheers!

    Re: Igor's Camera Exchange - Thumbs up/down?

Going by Igor's lens rating system, I should be rating most of my lenses as new, just came out of the box to inspect on the Sinar/Linhof machine. No offense to his rating system, but maybe I'm "a lot" more discriminating in how I see condition of something.

I posted in the for sale section about my one time experience with Igor and it was a buy, this thing is scratched and not like new, and return, and quick refund...end of story. I think I later saw he had sold the lens and for a higher price than I got it for. I don't know how anyone would have accepted that lens for anywhere near what I paid, let alone what the person that paid for it paid.

Igor is very good at responding. I have no doubt that he has good stuff and this is not to put him down in any way as a bad seller could have told me it didn't have scratches all over and that's that.
