You guys seem to think that used gear works the same as new gear. It does not.

I haven't seen anyone suggest that used gear works the same as new gear. But when you get a lens and shutter from Igor and there's a problem with the shutter the first time you try it, odds are it could have been discovered as easily before the item was sold as after.

There are sellers of used gear with whom almost nobody ever has a problem - e.g. Midwest Photo Exchange - and there are sellers with whom people seem to often have problems (not always but often enough that a pattern emerges). Igor seems to be in the latter category. The good thing about Igor from what I can tell is he doesn't hesitate to accept returns and gives credit promptly. So I certainly don't think he's a rip-off artist, just someone who isn't real careful about making sure that what he sells is accurately described.

    Re: Igor's Camera Exchange - Thumbs up/down?

Just a small update, since I was reading this thread before I ordered a Radar Anastigmat lens from Igor.

Emailed him about the lens, he did take a long time (2 weeks) to reply, paid him on the same day of the email, and next day the lens was sent out to Singapore.

Received the lens today in good order and packed well.

Personally I would recommend calling him in person for a much quicker response.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but just thought I'd put in a few words for Igor.

Just bought something from him as well, he also took 2 weeks for me. Must've been on vacation, as other emails from previous purchases were quickly returned.

    Greetings,

I have bought two lenses from Igor for a fair price -- they arrived as promised in a timely
manner and were described and graded accurately. Also had a good visit with Igor
at one of the large format conferences. I will likely buy more from him in the future.

I bought a lens from Igor there. He's a good guy, has some extremely old, rare stuff and it is what it is. If you buy an old, rare brassy, it might have some faults..

Seeing your vendor up close and personal is a most helpful perspective.

I've not had occasion to buy anything from Igor's, but I would if I could. Haven't yet been able to make a $100 bill in my basement that will pass....

A single purchase of tripod head. It was an easy transaction, with quick response and shipping and the quality was as stated. No issues.

Recently purchased a Cambo Wide DS camera w/ 4x5 back from Igor on eBay. The camera was not only exactly as represented but better - condition immaculate. Also made some smaller purchases -always shipped quickly and packed with care. Igor obviously cares about his reputation and his customers.

I've purchased a few items from Igor. I found his descriptions accurate and his prices fair.

I bought my first 4x5, a Crown Graphic Special as well as some 4x5 holders from Igor a number of years ago.
All in great shape. A nice experience!! He is also available to talk to on the phone if you need to. Always a plus.

This is not an old thread, its been mixed up to confuse buyers to support Igor. Do not buy from him. Period. He will cheat you, you will spend 100s or 1000s on CLAs or lose that money. Remember his Mint is E- on KEH or even E on BH photo. He does have good items but there are buyers who are more honest, post 10-20 photos of each lens/camera so you can see what you buy. Read my previous post, BEWARE!!
