    8x10 Pinhole Possibilities

I had a notion that I could make a pinhole "lens" for my 8x10 camera. Does anyon e have any experience with this or recommendations that would save me a lot of h eadaches. Also, what are the possibilities for using shifts, tilts, etc.? Thanks folks, you are a wealth of info!

I have made a whole series of pinholes to use on my 8x10. You can make them out of brass shim stock, available at hobby shops. I have instructions for making such pinholes on my site at http://unblinkingeye.com/Articles/Pinhole/pinhole.html. Shifts and tilts aren't usually necessary (because the pinhole has nearly infinite depth of field) but it occurs to me that you might get some interesting effects just the same. Hmmm. Anyway, my Links page also has some links to useful pinhole sites.

What I did for my Graphflex was make a cardboard lensboard and then mounted a pinhole to the lens board, as you move the bellows forward and back the effective apeture changes also, and you still have all the movements. Also you can remove the lens from your shutter and put in a cardboard mounted pinhole and then you can use the T and B setting on the shutter, a little easier than using a cap. There is a pinhole site that has all the apeture and f/stop information. Pat

Calumet Photographic sells rather inexpensive sets of pinholes that you may be able to adapt easily to your 8x10. That is less fun than making your own, but... Bob
