    The "Best" custon B&W printer?

I'm not a very good B&W printer, and have a 6x9 landscape negative from which I'd like to have as great a print as possible. Is there any body (U.S.) better than Jim Megargee at MV Labs to send it to? Thanks.

Bill an unfair conclusion ... more likely that no on e on the Forum that is familiar with Jim Megargee's wrok has read your post. There are many excellent printers around. If you want superb B&W from a scan of the negative you migh try Nash Editions. You could also send it to me .

I'm not a B&W photographer, but if you ask over on APUG you will find someone who can make a suggestion.

Cox B+W labs, in Rancho Cordova south of Sacramento does really nice work. They keep a file on everyone they print for, that includes the shooter's preferences (i.e. style of shooting, higher or lower contrast prints) I've had great success with some of my early T-Max shots, before I switched to FP4 and started developing and printing my own.

I'd give them a thumbs up, but then I don't know many other places to compare them too. Very nice people there.

I know Jim, he is pretty damn good

Praus will work with you, he isn't as high faluting... he doesn't print for Annie L. but he can print to suit most artists.

I have used Praus only once (May '07) but was 200% satisfied. ALL my B&W and E6 is going there after having dealt with these folks. First class operation.

I noticed they offer some different options for B/W development - that's something my local lab doesn't do. Might have to give their B/W service a try.
