5x7 film in a Jobo 3005 Expert Drum

A quick question - the Jobo instructions on this don't make perfect sense to me:

If I'm using a 3005 drum for 5x7 film, do I place the film inside the same way as 8x10 film (i.e. the 7inch lengh goes along the lengh of the drum and the 5inch side is curled around the tube) or the other way (where the 7 inch side is curled around the inside of the tube and the 5 inch side goes same as the lengh of the tube)? Also, how far in do I push the sheets?

    Thanks

I've always put 5x7s in horizontally - that is, "where the 7 inch side is curled around the inside of the tube and the 5 inch side goes same as the lengh of the tube". I push them only a little bit into the well.

Always, the sheets move around during processing, substantially more than occurs with larger sheets that fill more of the available space. Sometimes they'll crawl deep into the well, which makes them a pain to extract. It's never made any apparent difference in the evenness of the development, which so far as I can tell is excellent every time.

All that said, I only do 5x7s in the 3005 in a pinch - a 3006 is more convenient.

Thanks Oren. I may just spring for a 3006 next week anyway.

Don, I have done it the same as Oren but alo vastly prefer the 3006 tank.

Thanks Ted - yes, my experience thus far is that the 3005 is "clunky" with 5x7 and that a 3006 drum is beckoning.... BTW, my initial response to mucking about with 5x7 is "OK, I finally get it..."

Did a batch of 6.5x8.5 in my 3005 this evening. Just right...
