clogged nozzle in Epson printer - HELP!

A friend gave me his old Epson 1160 printer, which I hope to use to make digital negatives. It seems to have clogged nozzles. I tried head cleaning routine several times. It improved but it is still very bad. Any idea how clean the heads? I have reasons to think that this printer was not used for some few years.

park the head in the tray as usual - but clean it out first and fill with butane. Lacquer thinner will work if absolutely nothing else does...!

I'd recommend starting with water instead of flammable chemicals. Safer for you and less harsh on the print head. You also can buy head cleaner here (this is stuff that Epson technicians recommend, because it cleans without drying out the head). But water works fine too. If it doesn't, I'd try Windex next. The idea is to dampen the parking pad enough that the moisture loosens the clogs in the nozzles.

Myself and most of the professional printers I know start with a Windex soak overnight.
    Thanks,

Agreed, windex soak. Also I bought empty 1160 carts from MIS and ran windex in em for a few cleaning cycles after the 1160 had sat unused for a year.Cleared it right up.I still use my 1160 for b/o printing with MIS Eboni on HPR 308.Works like a champ.

OK, but how exactly you clean? Do you fill the empty cardridges with windex, replace cardridges and run cleaning cycles? If so, how exactly do you fill cardridges with widex? I am very new to the printers, I know my questions are naive.

I'm not sure about that printer. On my 4000 I start by moving the head aside, soaking a paper towel in Windex and putting that on the the resting pad and then parking the head back on it.
    Thanks,
