Extremely short DOF without wrong perspective?

    Hi,

I wonder if its possible to get real short DOF by tilting the front or rear frame without altering the perspective?

If I for instance shoot a full length portrait and want the head to be focused but not the rest of the body. How should I do that without messing up the perspective?

Tilting the front does not affect the geometry of the image.

What Alan said. The front controls focus, the rear perspective.

    Thanks guys,

Maybe I really have to buy one of those learning books

I just thought that it didn't matter if you used the front vs rear for any control and lazy short-armed me only uses the rear one

Rear swings and tilts or front swings and tilts can both be used to manipulate the plane of focus. However, using the rear movements does change the shapes and size relationships of elements in different parts of the fame whereas using the front does not.

If you have a camera set it up and beging playing with the front and rear movements to see what they do. This will be the best teacher. Use some Polaroid and make some images so you will have an actual photos to look at and study.

I think it was like Jim Johnston or Mike Michaelson or something alliterative like that.
