I'll be giving a 2 day workshop at the Indian Hill Image Works the weekend of May 5 & 6th. Indian Hill Image Works is just north of Manchester Vermont in a rural environment. It's a lovely time of year there, many cozy Inns are in the area and it makes for a great place to relax for a long weekend, shoot, shop (plenty of outlet stores in Manchester) and dine.

While the workshop curriculum is still being developed I can tell you that it will focus on methods and technologies that can be used to increase your chances of being in the right place at the right time, working in the field safely and effectively, and general tips and techniques for outdoor photography. This workshop is not film or digital specific as these are general methods being discussed.

The first day will be lecture, Q&A, presentations and discussions. The use of GPS/mapping software and astronomical software combined with discussions on weather, lighting, atmospherics, foliage, geology and geography will be used to enable people to better visualize scenes both on location and even by merely viewing the scene on a topo map. The workshop will involve a philosophy of preparedness and forethought, the saying goes," chance favors the prepared mind."

The second day will be more hands on and will most likely, weather dependant, involve a field trip giving a hands on application of previously discussed topics. The class itself is not a critique class, however when you get a bunch of photographers in a room there can't help but be discussions of images so students are encouraged to bring samples of their work, for either private or group discussion. Also if the exact location of their images are known, those images can also be used as reference for viewing a real scene in comparison to a topographic map and analysis of that scene. US locations only will work for this.

The class will be most beneficial to those who travel to unfamiliar places with photography as an important goal of their travels. However even those who may only travel a few miles to a shooting location will benefit as general outdoor photographic methods will be addressed as well.

The class will be limited to 8 students. The cost of the workshop is $500.
Details regarding accomodations, dining and directions will be available from Indian Hill Image Works. As of this date the workshop is not listed on their site.
