the more i study "classic" calotypists the more i am in awe of the work that they achieved.
however in terms of photographic publications, i don't think that justice has really been done, every week we get dozens of new monographs of contemporary photography, but masters seem sadly lacking, one example would be hill and adamson, there is a small paperback in print but nothing which i feel does justice to there contribution to the art.
americans, brady, gardner and o'sullivan don't really seem to have "de facto" photographic books in print either, french, le secq, bayard, negre, marville all seem sadly lacking in the "photobook boom" we are witnessing.
ok, i'll get to the point, maybe my research is lacking, how about some pointers to great classic calotipist photobooks, here are 3.
"gustave le gray", getty publications
"the photographs of edouard baldus", metropolitan museum
"all the mighty world, the photographs of roger fenton", metropolitan museum
oh, and
