    How to clean tripod threads?

    Hi folks,

I am about to sell an older Gitzo tripod on EBay, and wanted to clean the threads on the leg extensions, as some of them are a bit dry, and grit-filled; nothing dramatic, but I'ld like to pass it on in as perfect handling condition as possible. What do people recommend as far as cleaning the threads, and then re-greasing them? Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance!

Pity you aren't offering it here first (and the across-the-pond VAT problems!). I wouldn't worry too much. It's part of buying blind that you will receive something like a tripod that needs a clean before use. Most users won't even notice - I wouldn't!

Thanks for the answers. (I love this site!) The link has exactly what I need. It's a Gitzo G226 with a ball head whose number I can't remember. I upgraded to a CF (G2540TL). I used a Leica and Mamiya 7 on the 226 and on not very windy days, heresy as this might seem, my Technika as well! (Probably not of interest to LFers.)

I have an old Ries model C tripod. Do you have similar information on the care and feeding for a Ries Tripod?

    Thanks
