Help with Soligor spot meter

I recently purchased on ebay a Soligor 1 degree spot meter. When it came in the mail, it looked in mint condition. I put a new battery in, pressed the trigger a nd got no responce of the needle. The red light at the side of the handle came o n each time I pressed the trigger, but I still had no responce at any setting. I did not get a manual, so I may be overlooking something. (I hope). Anyone out t here that can advise me. Thanks ... Jack
