    Making it all "official"

I've been an occasional poster and an often lurker for a couple of years now but I figure it's time I make a proper introduction now that I signed up for the print exchange.

My real name is Alan and really only started with LF about two years ago. I first got a super cheap 4x5 and shot a ton of polaroids to get a head start on the learning curve. That was a lot of fun.

Next I found a 5x7 for really cheap and found I quite enjoy the larger negative as well as making contact prints. I'm not super crazy about the aspect ratio and had been confused about the direction I wanted to go in for several months. Just recently I had the opportunity to purchase a 2D with all three backs. Compared to the other two cameras this was a lot more expensive but now I have the flexibility to shoot as the mood strikes. Lately I've been making a lot of 8x10 paper negatives/contact prints and this is almost as much fun as polaroids only about a million times cheaper. I also like the more square negative a little bit better than the 5x7.

I currently live in central New Jersey after having moved from Utah last spring. For work I'm a freelance Art Director/Graphic Designer/Illustrator and enjoy the market out here much more than in Utah. I originally started photography as a way to stay creatively sharp and it's now turned into something much more rewarding.

Besides having fun learning about LF a cool thing I'm involved with is EMULSION magazine. If you've spent any time on apug you may have heard of it. I've been able to combine two things I love and it's been a fun trip so far. I hesitated to mention the magazine in light of recent goings ons so I won't elaborate further.

I now resume my occasional posting and lurking

    Alan Peck.

    Alan,

    Why lurk?

Participate! It's a lot more fun!

In any case... welcome to the forum.

It's a good place to hang out.

    Cheers

Hey you menace... Look forward to see your print when it gets to my house! Post more. Don't lurk like ONE guy I know who will remain nameless who goes out photographing with me often and sold a lot of his darkroom stuff to me and is probably reading this right now...
Hey Alan, I teach graphic design & illustration at high school...what kind of stuff do you do in that field?
    What is Emulsion magazine?

More importantly, welcome to the Garden State.

Having grown up in Flemington, NJ, I'm glad you're enjoying the change from Utah (not that the west is bad since my first job out of college was in Montana).

You'll enjoy exploring New Jersey with your 5x7.

Thanks for the welcome fellow film nerds. I was planning on responding but have been working too much to browse the forums (if you can believe it). For some reason employers frown on thier freelancers browsing websites when they should be working.

Andrew: EMULSION is a magazine I'm involved with (I'm the Art Director) hence the apprehension at posting about it. But what the hell...It's a quarterly pub devoted to traditional processes and our second issue should be coming off the press any day now. If they ship me any extras maybe I'll send one along with my prints. All I ask is that you pass it on once you're done reading it

    See you all around,

    Alan.
