    Digital Rights on hardware

    Interesting article on overlaywered.com

    http://www.overlawyered.com/2006/11/...a_contrac.html

Quote: You may imagine that you're buying a Canon EOS-1D camera, but all you're buying is actually a license to use it, and a fairly restrictive license at that.

Sadly the full article is lacking, but it does seem an interesting business trend - you buy a physical device, but hte software to operate that device is licensed only. Technically ths is true already with computers, but ten years form now will we see the same sort of thing for a digital back for 4x5?

Anyhow, dunno if ths belongs here or another forum, but thought it was something worth noting

    Re: Digital Rights on hardware

    Sigh.

Good thing there isn't any software involved in the 70+ exposures I made today (35 mm, but same storage technology I use in 4x5). Wonder how long it'll be before Canon or Nikon starts to claim rights in the images made with their cameras, and how long after that before some photographer actually notices?
If a contact print at arm's length is too small to see, you need a bigger camera. :D
