Photo Techniques Magazine - Photos Reversed?

Am I nuts or did Photo Techniques magazine get the two John Sexton photographs on pp. 34-35 reversed, i.e. that the one they label as the "straight" print was really the "final" print and vice versa?

I think you are right Brian, The one labled as straight print seems to have more contrast and punch than the final version. I prefer the one they have marked as the straight version

According to John he wanted to lighten the central sand area and darken the edges to keep them from bleeding off. He accomplished this in the "Final" print.
However, my preference is also for the snappier "Straight" print although it exhibits less detail. Either way, it is a very fine image.

Now that I read the article, I see what John was trying to accomplish. I am sure that the print is stunning when viewed in person and being printed on a magazine page does no justice to it. I never thought I would critique a John Sexton print.

    Take care BR
