    Home made 4x5 tanks

    Hello,

I want to develope my negs in 4x5 tanks..I know about the Kodak rubber tanks and such. After waiting for some (3 ) to show on ebay ..bidding loosing ..bidding again postage more waiting ..may not get 3 at once..well you know. I thought there must be something in this world of numerous plastic disposable containers that would work for 4x5 tanks, so I am going to check several stores and sources for something that might fill the bill. Could you please tell mewhat are the inside dimensions of a 4x5 rubber kodak tank. Thanks again for your time and help.

I don't have the Kodak tanks, but Yankee tanks measure 5 5/8 x 5 1/8 x 5 5/8 deep. Perhaps you can scale down the diminsions of a three section Kaye 5x7 tank that takes up to five hangers and measures 7 1/4 x 2 x 8 3/4 deep. That's about two inches deeper than perhaps really needed, but allows for the drain in each section.

    Gerry,

The inside dimensions of a Kodak 4x5 hard rubber tank are, 3 3/4" wide, 6" long, and 5 7/8" deep.

Cesco makes molded plastic tanks for 4x5 that sell for about $16.00 including lids. You might look into those before you make anything. Calumet and others sell these tanks.

I like the Yankee tanks over the Kodak.

There are numerous plastic food containers tha folks use as developing tanks. Personally, I prefer the Unicolor print drum and roller route if doing more than one sheet. I have a Yankee Agitank that I absolutely hate.

Freestyle has these, but they're $20. Still, with hangers going for a song on eBay, that might be a practical way to handle more than four sheets, as well as allowing the semi-stand process I like. I could easily make a wooden frame to hold and carry the tanks (since I have a temporary darkroom). Hmmm...
If a contact print at arm's length is too small to see, you need a bigger camera. :D
