Film Stockist and Processing in the Lake District of the UK?

This ties into the other thread about traveling USA to UK with sheet film.

I wonder if there is an easy place to buy in-stock sheet film in the southern Lake District? And a processing lab? E6, C41, B&W...?

In light of the difficulties of traveling with sheet film, if I could just buy some film on site and then get it processed to bring home I could thwart the security mavens.

I bought my film at Robert White and had it shipped to my first hotel in York. The exposed film I shipped to your friend Praus. The film I carried on board (no hand check) showed no sign of fogging, but that was before the recent terror threat.

    Hi Frank,
Apart from Robert White I doubt if you'll find sheet film outside Central London. Silverprint (based near Waterloo) sell a good variety and Teamwork (based off Tottenham Court Road also sell sheet film. Both shops are closed on Saturdays & Sundays. Retro Photographic do a postal service (I,m not sure what colour film they offer). Peak Imaging in Derbyshire seem to have a good name for processing sheet film. Bear in mind that nothing is cheap in the U.K. the 17 1/2 % VAT rate does not help but prices are very high for anything L.F. I think that under certain circumstances you can claim the V.A.T. back as an overseas visitor but I have no idea how. If I was in your shoes I would foreward film to the address where you are staying from the U.S.
Good luck and have a good trip.
    Pete.

The only town of any size around there is Kendal, which apart from the ubiquitous chain "Jessops", has only one other that I can find, but neither of which are likely to stock LF film of any sort, but they may be able to obtain some for you in advance and hold it for your arrival. If you are flying in to London or Manchester (wave as you pass over Ilford's factory ) that would be a better bet for all things photographic...

    In Kendal:

    Jessops:7 FINKLE STREET, KENDAL, CUMBRIA, LA9 4AB. Tel 08454587150 http://www.jessops.com

    Wilkinsons: 19A The Westmorland Centre, Kendal, Cumbria, LA9 4AB. Telephone: 01539 735055 http://www.wilkinson.co.uk/Index.asp

As others said, I would not rely on getting film locally in a hurry. Either send it, buy it in London if you are flying in there, or get it shipped from a local mail-order supplier such as Robert White. Check the latest regulations as you may find that by the time you fly, taking film in hand luggage may be allowed again.

Despite the best efforts of the maverns, have fun while you are here! Bob.

    Frank, hi
I'd give Jessops a miss, if I were you, they are more or less High Street digital only nowadays. The Lake district is not awash with sheet film processing labs, either, but if you e-mail Wilkinsons, they may be able to suggest somewhere local. At least they deal in high quality film cameras, (Leica) so there's a better chance.

These are pro processing labs. in the north of the country, from whom you might be able to sort out a rapid return postal deal with, using the "Royal Mail Special Delivery" (insured, next day) from our English postal service. I'd contact them to see when you've checked out the cost.
You wouldn't want to drive there just for the film processing I suspect, but you can use http://www.theaa.com
for a route planner if you want to.
I've attached a link to the prices just to give you a clue on costs (but you probably won't like it)

As for film, Robert White (already mentioned here) has a 3 for 2 offer on boxes of sheet 5x4 transparency at the moment. We also have Calumet here. Again, I advise postal, next day service.

Is Manchester close enough? If so then try these

    http://www.pro2col-imaging.co.uk/con...lmprocess.html

haven't used them myself but have heard good reports and they offer a colection and delivery service in the North west with 24 hour turn around. Might depend how far away you are.

Also, Kentmere are based in Kendal so a call to them would likely give you info on where to get film and processing locally if Manchester is too far away.

Pro2col do an excellent job in processing E6. Usually takes about 2 hours. B&W is only done twice a week (Tue and Thu, I believe).
Calument in Manchester is also fairly well stocked on sheet film, but is a bit dear for my tastes.

PFD (Pro Film and Digital) in Manchester (Carriocca Business Estate) also carry a selection of Sheet Film.

Preordering from Robert White and delivery to the hotel sounds like the best/cheapest option, that I can think of.

    Pete.
Once heard some Americans from the NY telling about how they accidentally visited Moss Side and said they were more fearful for their life there than at any place in NY!

    I'll get hate mail now.
