I noticed the recent 14x17 Empire State view camera currently for sale on Ebay. Had a question or two about this format.
I understand that my 7x17 format FS which I acquired a little over a year ago derives from simply half of a 14x17 sheet.
Am also curious if 14x17 was originally made avaliable during pre-enlargement/contact printing days (late 1800's) as one of a number of slightly squarish formats. IOW, just another size in the group that included 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, and 20x24.
I would also be curious as to why the range of film sizes. I would assume the varying size availability was due to manufacturer's of both cameras and films attempts to provide a market with size to fit every need/preference. I mean, I think of the varied preferences and requirements of so many shooters today - 35mm to 20x24 and everything in between.
Your comments very much appreciated!
