What's a good length for a cable Release and a LFC?

I guess I'll weigh in, with another vote for the Gepe 40 inch release. The extra length lets me loop the release around the tripod's control handles without putting any stress on anything when I want to work close, or I can have it farther away when I need to hold an umbrella to shield the camera from wind. It coils nicely and stores flat. Silky smooth release, too.

I've been buying gear from B&H for years and every year or three add a few of these cheap cheap ones that they apparently bought a barrel of some years ago. My LF lenses are all mounted on lensboards with these short 10 inch cables. When I used to shoot 35mm or 6x7 I'd eventually managed to stretch the cables destroying them. With my LF system I've gone several years now without abusing one yet. Since my work is outdoor landscapes, I don't want a long release that might be more apt to move about due to breezes. ...David
