Actually, the "old timers" are those initial, over-zealous supporters of a new media that have to retire before the media finds its own place in the world of art & design.

Of course. Being the avantgarde makes them a minority within the generation of resisters. Their retiring will hence mark the general acceptance of the new media and its going mainstream.
