    Tiger Cub Pinhole Project

My Tiger Cub den is going to be building pinhole cameras (5x7 paper negs). I plan on assigning a theme like "My Town" 'My School" "My Nieghborhood" "My Family" etc... and exhibiting the prints at City Hall, the local coffee house or shopping center so people can see things from a 1st Grader Boy's perspective.

I've never done anything like this before. Do the experts here have any thoughts, suggestions, or concerns that I should be aware of?

Just be aware of a few not doing the assignment or having a parent do it, and for a few funky shots. But also you will be quite pleasantly surprised by the quality of some of the photos. Some will have an unusually sophisticated sense of composition and design beyond their years, and an unusual way of looking at the world.
    Good luck and have fun.

    Hello John,

No advice to offer you but I just wanted to say, "Good on you for taking the time and making the effort of exposing kids to this ancient form of photography!"

It's events like this that make a difference in the life of a child.

    My hat off to you.

    Cheers

I have also done this with kids in my area, if you want to take a look at examples of the types of cameras we built, here is a link to my pinhole web page; http://www.fotographis.com/pinhole.htm

Thank you all for the guidence and especially the link! I think this will be a lot of fun---some of the boys are already talking it up. I'll gather the materials and (wishful thinking here as the temps are hovering around 105 degrees) first rainy day we'll stay indoors and make the cameras. My lawyer might have an "in" at City Hall though I think the local coffee house will be willing to hang us up if I wimper and beg convincingly enough.

    Cheers!

If you do a search on the web, there are many pinhole sites. PM me and I'll send what I found, including some instructions, a couple of years ago when I set up for an 8th grade science class...

    John,

The most recent edition of Black & White Photography (from the UK) also has an article on a chap doing exactly what you're about to do. It was an interesting read and sounds like everything went exceedingly well for him.

You should be able to get it at the local newspaper and magazine store in your neck of the woods.

Here are a couple more resources for you to peruse:
