problem with Shen Hao back..

I recently purchased a Shen Hao 6x12 back(6x9 6x6 adapter). Does anyone have suggestions on using this back? It has the 2 red windows to see the film numbers. Unfortunately, I used a flashlight to see the numbers and when the film came back from the lab it had a red line across all the frames. I realize it was the result of the flashlight. The back seems well made but the numbers are difficult to see. Any advice appreciated.
